  1. Tells me that we as Christ-followers have our work cut out for us.

Sorry, I didn’t get the point of this at all. People have been going on like this about the pace of change for thousands of years. Certainly the Greeks were doing it BC, I’m sure there are parts of the Old Testament like this.

You can stuff x billion bytes down a glass pipe in two seconds, but you can still spend 5 minutes not saying anything, and missing the point when you do: China will soon be the biggest English speaking nation? Surely the point is that everyone else is going to be speaking Chinese.

Sorry if I’m grumpy: working in my garrett on a sunny Sunday.

Yeah, mostly technology is pretty cool. I hate when it becomes a downfall though. Like when hackers, spammers, identity theives, pornagraphy…etc, etc. Not to mention the trouble and expense in keeping up with it because there is always bigger and better.

It most definatly is job security. šŸ˜€

    Thanks for sharing.

I’m grumpy this morning too. In case you couldn’t tell. šŸ˜¦

  5. Ivan Says:

Hi Lorna! I’m not grumpy any more. I just went and washed the dishes and listened to crazy Japanese pop music (courtesy of Check out Baby Portable Rock by the Pizzicato Five.

Ivan: I’m glad you’re feeling better. Not sure what “their” point was in making the video. My point in posting it is this…

    1) In November ALONE, here in the US, over 500,000 people lost their jobs. Many, many more people will lose their jobs over the course of the next year or two. Lots of these people will be looking to change careers. Point #1 is get yourself familiar with information technology because it ain’t goin’ away. Neither are the medical fields or taxes. Any job in those areas will spell security.
    2) To the skeptics who like to patronize those of us who spend time on the Internet — I think the video speaks for itself, but let me add my sarcasm because it’s funny — you skeptics are Fred Flintstone loving dinosaurs and I’m just going to call you Dino for short. Ha!!

Lorna: Every good thing gets infiltrated in some way or another. Heck, people poison Halloween candy. They murder unborn babies. They abuse children. It’s our disgusting world. Thankfully we have the promise of eternal peace in heaven.

  7. Joe Blackmon Says:

I was a band director once upon a time until I had a realization that while I loved teaching music I HATED teaching other people’s children. Anyway, finding jobs as a band director was hard because in the South anyway it’s almost as political as the football coach position. When I decided to go back to school I thought about IT but decided on accounting. I think it’s just about as safe a job. It’s like a professor of mine told me “You may not always have the job you want but you’ll be able to find a job”. Now with 5 years experience I feel pretty confident that even if something happened and I lost this gig I could find another one pretty quickly.

  8. Ivan Says:

I think the best thing about the net is that it allows people to meet each other. It brings people together.

  9. This week, I learned what “job insecurity” means…while I still have one, I’ve learned the meaning of “job furlough”…and the meaning of “weeks without pay…”

2009 should be an interesting year.

Some of the leading experts are saying that in the US, joblessness will reach 8.5-9.0% by mid-spring…we haven’t seen numbers like that in decades…
